My vacation after graduate just started! This will be longest trip so far, for up to 3 weeks backpacking in Australia, with 4 other guys together.
First time backpacking in winter country, no experience, no knowledge about it. Living in the tropical country for more than 2 decades, at the equator of the earth. I half-naked (upper body of course…) almost all of the time (except working in airconditioned office), I can’t imagine how cold is it in winter country.
I have to refer to my friends on what are the necessary stuffs to bring. Thus, whatever inside my bag would be roughly the same as what my friends have. No idea of how would there be, so worry about the low temperature there, and how could I resist the coldness. Hope I won’t get frozen there.
For cold-resistance stuff:
- Long sleeves shirt
- Beanie / bandana
- Winter jacket
- Long jeans
- Sport shoes/hiking shoes
Backpackers don’t just go to town and walk by or shopping, we adventure through different kind of places, going to do different kind of activities, like canoeing, skydiving, swimming in nature, hiking and photoshooting.
For tour stuff:
- Hiking shoes
- Sandal/slipper (for water activities)
- Medical/First aid kit
- Swimming trunk
Why need sunblock and sunglasses?? Because we are actually travelling towards northern Australia, which is getting warmer and sunny there. We are travelling from Melbourne all the way to Darwin. The journey is about 4000km.
And, there are some important documentation to bring along for this trip.
- Air ticket
- Pre-booking documents
- International License
Some hotels are pre-booked, hence the receipt have to be brought along. We are also going to rent a car there, hence we need international license. For Malaysian, we can pay for RM150 from JPJ to get an IDP (International Driving Permit) in order to drive Australian car in Australia.http://www.jpj.my/International_Driving_Permit.htm
To travel in Australia, we need VISA. But, we can use apply an electronic VISA online, through https://www.eta.immi.gov.au/ETA/etas.jsp?tub=&submit=apply. This ease a lot of job. We don’t need to apply VISA through travel agency. It’s AUD$20 for one VISA. Fast and convenience. Once we applied this online, the electronic VISA is recorded in their system linked to our passport number, hence only passport is required during the check-in at custom.
I took off from KLIA on Thursday (20th June), so see you guys three weeks later!
